The tax extension deadline is October 15 — but filing an extension doesn't extend your time to pay.
If you owe taxes and filed an extension, that money was still due April 15. Penalties and interest start today on any unpaid balance.

This is exactly why clean books matter year-round — not just in March.
When your books are reconciled monthly, you know your tax liability before it becomes urgent. No scrambling. No "wait, how much do I owe?" the week of the deadline.

If your books aren't where they need to be, now is actually the best time to get them cleaned up. You have six months before your return is due — let's use that time well.

Some of the most common financial myths I hear from online sellers:

Platform dashboards are not your books. Shopify revenue, Amazon payouts, PayPal settlements — none of these automatically land correctly in your accounting software. And when they don't, your reports are wrong before you even start.

I personally reconcile every payment processor and sales channel to your books. Monthly. So your P&L actually reflects reality — not what Shopify thinks you made.
